Food Safety Modernization Act Passes Senate for the Second Time

S.510, the Food Safety Modernization Act, passed the Senate yesterday after removing the procedural errors that involved fees and financing. The law will go into effect after House approval and President Obama’s signature.

The bill strengthens the FDA’s legal authority in areas such as giving it the power of manditory recall and requires that all food processors have a functional HACCP based food safety management system.
